Your child's first dental visit

A first dental visit should feel friendly, not scary. We make your little one's introduction to the dentist gentle and unhurried, and we recommend it happen by their first birthday.

When to come in

We recommend a first visit by age one

As soon as that first tooth appears, or by your child's first birthday, it's a great time for a first dental visit. Starting early lets us watch healthy development, answer your questions, and help your child build a positive, lifelong relationship with the dentist.

  • Gentle, no-pressure introduction for infants & toddlers
  • A friendly first hello with Dr. Lee and our team
  • Parents always welcome to stay right alongside

What to expect

What happens at the first visit

First visits are short, gentle and friendly. We move at your child's pace and keep everything light, there's nothing to worry about.

A friendly hello

We meet your child where they are, letting them get comfortable with the room, the chair and our smiling team before anything begins.

Count those teeth

A gentle look at any teeth that have come in, plus a quick, playful check of the gums and bite, all at a pace that feels easy for little ones.

Check growth

Dr. Lee checks that teeth and jaws are developing on track and watches for anything we'll want to keep an eye on as your child grows.

Parent guidance

We'll talk through brushing, healthy snacking, teething, and thumb or pacifier habits, and answer every question you have.

Lots of encouragement

Plenty of praise and a happy goodbye. The goal is for your child to leave feeling proud, and looking forward to coming back.

A plan going forward

We'll set a simple six-month checkup rhythm so good habits start early and your child stays cavity-free.

A parent or legal guardian must be present

For your child's first visit, a parent or legal guardian, with official documentation, must be present on the day of the appointment. This protects your child and lets us review health history and consent properly. We are not able to begin a child's first visit without a parent or legal guardian present.

  • The parent or legal guardian must attend in person that day
  • Bring official documentation of guardianship if you are a legal guardian
  • We cannot begin treatment without a parent or guardian present
  • Parents are always welcome to stay throughout every visit

How to prepare your child

A little preparation goes a long way. Here are simple ways to help your child feel calm and excited for their first visit.

  • Talk about it positively, "the dentist counts your teeth!"
  • Read a fun kids' book about visiting the dentist together
  • Pick a relaxed time of day when your child is well-rested
  • Bring a favorite comfort toy or blanket if it helps
  • Keep your own tone calm and upbeat, kids take their cue from you
  • Let us do the rest, making kids comfortable is what we do best
